This essay synthesizes much of what we have done in class so far. Invention work, for example, is essential because the possible topics are infinite yet limited to a certain area of the world. You should expect to explore what interests you about art before you have any inclination of what to write. Profiles, positive and negative, are necessary in order to explain places, situations or experiences that your reader may not have any knowledge of as well as to control your reader’s impression of those situations. We will discuss this further in class. In the meantime, look at the essays in the book (Chapter 9-11) as models. Do not wait too long before you begin your note-taking process. I recommend that you make your personal rough draft deadline at least a week before Christmas.
